Fight Coronavirus Together Volunteer Service Campaigns

1. Fight Coronavirus Together Volunteer Care Action

In response to the COVID-19 threat, AVS launched the Fight Coronavirus Together Volunteer Care Action to encourage and support community groups/organizations to organize volunteer service to express loving care to the underprivileged with the provision of protective masks, hand sanitizers and health advice on infection prevention.  Target beneficiary organizations and groups were those serving the elderly living alone, disable persons, low-income families, patients, etc who had greater need for epidemic prevention supplies.  More than 95,000 surgical masks and 20,000 bottles of hand sanitizers were collected.  About 1,800 volunteers were mobilized by 157 recipient NGOs and volunteer groups to serve over 19,000 underprivileged.

2. Stand with Medic

With sponsorship from Amgen Hong Kong Limited, AVS launched the Stand with Medic Campaign, ASTM Level 2 surgical masks will be donated to about 4,500 front-line medics in Hong Kong to express gratitude to them for their dedication in fighting against the coronavirus and protecting the general public.  Volunteer illustrator, be,story and celebrities were invited to design and sign the caring cards as a heartwarming gift to show our support.

3. Anti-virus Services in WGE

In light of the coronavirus outbreak, Social Welfare Department (SWD) allocated a sum to AVS Western Garden Neighbourhood Elderly Centre (WGE) for the purchase of face masks, hygienic and sanitizing products for the elder members.  Also, in partnership with Capering Holistic Medical Alliance, an awardee of the 8th Hong Kong Volunteer Award, WGE conducted a caring visit on 23 February 2020, with 30 volunteers from the medical and health care sector, to 176 elderlies, bringing them masks, sanitizing product, healthy food, as well as sharing with them advice on virus prevention.

4. Mask Raising Campaign for Cho Yiu

To meet the pressing need of the elderly, volunteers of AVS 4C Youth Volunteer Leadership Project initiated the Campaign in late February 2020 to raise masks from the public to support the elder residents in Cho Yiu Chuen where the Hong Kong Institute of Volunteers (HKIOV) situated.  Under class suspension, the youth volunteers were mobilized to appeal for mask donation through their social media network, while the project mentors undertook the packing and delivery service.  Around 11,200 donated masks were collected within 5 days and were given to 2,150 elderlies in Cho Yiu Chuen were benefited.

5. Fight Coronavirus Together V-together Volunteer Care Programme

With funding from the Hong Kong Jockey Club, AVS Volunteer Action Centre jointly organized the Programme with Hong Kong Jockey Club Volunteer Team.  Volunteers helped with packing 2,500 sets of hand sanitizers and wet wipes, and distribute to 2,500 people in need.

6. Volunteer Talent Teams Caring Action

Under class suspension, children could still volunteer at home.  Family Volunteer Team of The Hong Kong Jockey Club Community Project Grant - Volunteer Talent Bank invited family volunteers to design caring cards, which would be made into eco bags or folders, or put in  anti-virus gift packs to those in need.  Children express their feelings through drawing and most importantly, bring positive energy to the society. 

Moreover, the V-care Befrienders Team conducted home visits to elderly cases of Suicide Prevention Services and distributed anti-virus gift packs to them.

7. Flash Mob Volunteer Team

Led by AVS Volunteer Leader Team, more than 40 volunteers participated in a flash mob service in April and May to distribute protective gift packs to 1,500 cleansing workers and security guards, who work in the frontline in 18 districts, to express our care and love, as well as to deliver antivirus tips.  Volunteers and volunteer photographers of The Hong Kong Jockey Club Community Project Grant - Volunteer Talent Bank supported the project as well and took photos to capture the moment.

8. Fight Coronavirus Together Volunteer Service

Home Affairs Bureau (HAB) in the first week of February 2020 solicited AVS’s urgent support to recruit volunteers for non-medical and non-professional service to care for people under compulsory home quarantine and support the logistics in quarantine camps; and to support the anti-virus services of government departments.

9. “Volunteer from Home . Fight Against Coronavirus” Caring Campaign

To encourage using the time staying at home meaningfully, AVS launch the “Volunteer from Home . Fight Against Coronavirus” Caring Campaign with aims to encourage citizens to volunteer by expressing love and care to people in need, especially for single elderly persons and chronically ill patients, via phone calls or instant messages.
