The fifth day of December each year is the International Volunteer Day (IVD) declared by the United Nations. The Day aims to salute all volunteers and to celebrate in every corner of the world for stimulating more people to volunteer.
Agency for Volunteer Service (AVS) is dedicated to playing a proactive and pivotal role in building a civil society and caring community through the promotion and development of sustainable volunteerism.
To mark the 10th Anniversary of the International Year of Volunteers (IYV+10) in 2011, AVS collaborated with 20 organizations to form a IYV+10 Steering Committee, with the slogan “Inspiring the Volunteer in You”, to coordinate and carry out celebration activities in Hong Kong.
AVS launches IVD celebrations annually to recognize volunteers’ contribution to the community. Activities of the year include:

International Volunteer Day Recognition Ceremony 2011
The ceremony held on Sunday, 4 December 2011. AVS’s Hong Kong Community Volunteers (HKCV) who fit to AVS volunteer recognition system, were invited and recognized at the Ceremony (Gold Award or above for Individuals). Winners of Heroic Volunteer Award and Leadership Bauhinia Volunteer Award are also awarded at the Ceremony. 2010/11 Awardees are:
