United Nations Volunteers (UNV) :
The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) was established in 1970. Its UNV Volunteers Programme provides an opportunity for experienced volunteers to contribute to the development goals of the developing countries and regions.
The Hong Kong Connection :
To enable Hong Kong people to participate in international volunteering, Agency for Volunteer Service (AVS) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with UNV as its cooperating organization and the focal point of UNV activities in Hong Kong. The role of AVS is to promote public awareness of the UNV Programme and to facilitate experienced professionals to volunteer of the development for the needy countries and regions.
With the support of a number of professional and business associations in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong, China Committee on UNV (The Committee) has been set up under the auspices of AVS as an affiliate of the Hong Kong Council of Volunteering. Its membership consists of Agency for Volunteer Service, Association of Hong Kong Nursing Staff, Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Hong Kong Institute of Planners, Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui, International Chamber of Commerce-Hong Kong, China, The Hong Kong Dental Association, The Hong Kong Institute of Architects, The Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors, The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, The Hong Kong Medical Association and The Law Society of Hong Kong.
The Committee is responsible for developing strategies to promote the UNV Programme in Hong Kong and for disseminating information about the UNV Programme.

UNV's recruitment roster has over 100 professional categories, such as administration, finance and information technologies; agriculture; mass media; education and training; engineering; transport and communication; vocational trades and handicrafts; health; architecture, urban planning and heritage; natural sciences and resources; social sciences; law; project development; commerce and industry; emergency assistance and elections etc.
Qualifications and Experience required for UNV Volunteers
Conditions of Service
The vast majority of UNV assignments are based on six to twelve months renewable contracts, with the expectation that the UNV volunteer will serve one year or more.
