AVS – 50th Anniversary Celebrations

The year 2020 marks the 50th Anniversary of AVS.  The Kick-off Ceremony was staged at the 8th Hong Kong Volunteer Award Presentation Ceremony and officiated by the Hon Lau Kwong Wah, JP, then Secretary for Home Affairs on 23rd January 2020.

A number of commemorative events, including the “Together. We Plant” Volunteer Greening Day, 50th Anniversary Souvenir Book, Golden Jubilee Gala Dinner, Volunteer Octopus Card and 5 & 0 Special Offer Campaign, will be launched to celebrate the special milestone of AVS and the achievements of volunteerism in Hong Kong.

“Together. We Plant” Volunteer Greening Day

AVS organized the first highlight event, “Together. We Plant”, at Shing Mun Country Park, Tsuen Wan.  The event Ceremony held on 27 June 2020 was officiated by The Hon Dr Lam Ching Choi, SBS, JP, Non-official Member of Executive Council.

AVS joined the Tree Partner Programme organized by World Green Organisation, and with the support from the Country Parks Plantation Enrichment Programme implemented by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department.  Six tree-planting activities were held over four consecutive weekends from late June to mid July.  Volunteers from different sectors gathered in Shing Mun Country Park to transplant seedlings of various native tree species, to encourage people to “Go Green Volunteering” by caring and volunteering for our planet.  It echoes the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development advocated by the United Nations in relation to climate change and environmental protection.

50th Anniversary Souvenir Book

With the theme of “Devoted to Volunteering 50 Years Creating the Future”, the book demonstrates AVS’ accomplishments and contributions in past half century and tells the touching stories of the 25 winners of the 7th and 8th Hong Kong Volunteer Award” with a view to inspiring quality volunteering.

 

AVS Theme Song"Making our Dreams Together"

To commemorate the golden jubilee, AVS is honored to have Mr Warren Mok, BBS, MH, celebrated tenor to perform the AVS theme song “Making our Dreams Together” to inspire more citizens to volunteer for building a caring community. It is the first Cantonese song of Mr Mok, which is composed, arranged and produced by famous pianist, Mr Phoebus Chan, and authored by Mr Wong Ho Lam and Ms Chan Hoi Suet.

Successful completion of Golden Jubilee Dinner

 

 

AVS Golden Jubilee Dinner successfully held on 24 & and 25 November 2021 at Holiday Inn Golden Mile Hong Kong respectively. The Hon Caspar Tsui Ying-wai, Secretary for Home Affairs officiated at the Dinner on 25 November. Over 300 guests from political, social welfare, business sectors and volunteer leaders attended the dinner to witness the achievements of AVS in the past 50 years and to celebrate the new milestone of AVS together.

 

“Established for half a century, AVS has been promoting volunteerism, working closely with the government to promote the volunteerism, and building partnerships with various sectors of the community to promote the spirit of helping others, which contributed to the building of a harmonious and caring community,” The Hon Caspar Tsui said.

 

Number of guests were invited to bring the fabulous performances and add enhance the joyful atmosphere for the Golden Jubilee Dinner.

 

Volunteer Octopus Card
