Approved by the Social Welfare Department, the Agency for Volunteer Service (AVS) will hold a Territory-wide Flag Day on 12 July 2025 (Saturday), aiming to raise funds for promoting and developing sustainable volunteerism so as to serve the community.

The Hong Kong Volunteer Award (“HKV-Award”) Presentation Ceremony 2024 was successfully held on 10 December 2024. The ceremony honoured over 32,000 awardees, recognises the contributions and achievements of individuals, youth volunteers, groups, corporations, non-commercial organisations, estates and schools; for more details, please refer to the awardee list.

“Youth Power, Volunteering without Borders” is the theme of the HKV-Award 2024. The awardees, spanning across generations – youngsters, middle-aged, and elderly – showcased the broad participation and strong support for volunteerism across all sectors of society, including recipients of a series of Outstanding Awards, the Heroic Volunteer Award for acts of bravery and a series of volunteer service-hour based awards was also presented. We aim to inspire more people to participate in volunteering and to unite the power of the community in building a caring and inclusive society.

The 5th of December is the International Volunteer Day (IVD) proclaimed by the United Nations to promote volunteerism, and to encourage governments and organisations to pay tribute to volunteers in recognition of their contributions to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. Since 1992, AVS has been celebrating the IVD annually to show appreciation to volunteers, and to encourage more aspiring ones to adopt the volunteering way of life.

The Agency for Volunteer Service (AVS) has been organizing and managing volunteers to support various mega Hong Kong events, possessing extensive volunteer service management professional experiences. AVS was the co-organizer for the 2009 East Asian Games Volunteer Programme, responsible for recruiting, training, and managing volunteers to support the Games.  In recent years, AVS actively collaborates with various partners to offer effective volunteer services management services in large-scale events, such as the Hong Kong Marathon, Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge (Hong Kong Section) Half Marathon, Hong Kong Transplant Games and Dialysis Games, Hong Kong Cyclothon, Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance, etc.

The Agency for Volunteer Service (“AVS”) is one of the six volunteer matching platforms collaborating with the “JC VOLUNTEER TOGETHER PLATFORM” (“JCVTP”). With the support of The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, AVS launched a series of volunteer services to encourage those who first encounter volunteer service, whether they are families with young children, intergenerational volunteers, working adults or general public, to take an active part in volunteering. Starting today to 31 July 2024, new volunteers who participated in any service from the JC VOLUNTEER TOGETHER series and registered as members of AVS Hong Kong Community Volunteers (“HKCV”), will receive a complimentary offer of a 2-year free HKCV membership (Promotion Code: JCVT-23)
